Optiphen - Optiphen is a paraben and formaldehyde-free preservative. It consists of Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol. The Caprylyl Glycol is essentially a carrier base for the Phenoxyethanol. Optiphen is a clear liquid that is effective in formulas with PH between 4-8. It is safe for use at temperatures below 176 degrees. It is suggested for usage levels at .5 - 1.5% and is best used in oil based products.
Optiphen is a liquid, paraben-free and formaldehyde-free preservative used in aqueous formulations, anhydrous formulations, and in emulsions. Optiphen is a globally approved preservative system developed consisting of Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol. A true, multi-functional ingredient, caprylyl glycol also acts as a humectant and wetting agent in cosmetic and skin care formulations in addition to providing viscosity modification in some formulations. Optiphen not only provides broad spectrum preservation against bacteria, yeast and mold, the presence of caprylyl glycol imparts an exceptional feel to the finished formulation making it useful in creams, sunscreens, lotions, color cosmetics, body washes and shampoo applications. 
Optiphen is suitable for formulations and emulsions, such as creams, lotion, salves and body butters. Optiphen can destabilize some emulsions so for most emulsions, it is recommended that Optiphen be added during or post-emulsification at or below 37.7°C (100°F)

Usage rate is 0.5 - 1.5% of your formulation and best used between pH 4.0-8.0.
